Jumping into a Medical Spa

The medical spa market is expected to increase by 12% from 2018 to 2025 according to Allied Market Research. Key contributing factors include advances in laser technology for hair removal and body shaping. Tattoo removal is also a growing segment of the market. 

According to an article in the New York Times, many doctors are turning to aesthetic medicine for various reasons including fewer emergencies and the ability to make one’s own hours. Thus, doctors are jumping out of the crazy hours in hospitals and traditional medical practices and into cosmetics which affords a more balanced and family-oriented lifestyle.

Dr. Roel Galope, a successful board-certified Doctor of Osteopathy and radiologist has opened a medical spa here in Bergen County, NJ. “I was working for a long time as a radiologist, but I’ve always had a thirst for learning, and medical aesthetics was really piquing my curiosity.  There are so many different treatments out there for those that want it, and I’m fascinated by the ever-advancing technology.” 

So, after years of being a radiologist Dr. Galope learned about things like Botox and fillers and became a Bauman Certified Coach® for non-invasive hair loss remedies. 

Dr. Galope was born in the Philippines and emigrated to California when he was 8 years old. He says, “The schools were harder in the Philippines, so I was ahead of the kids in my class in California. So, especially for math, I was given the textbook for independent study. I was assigned projects and when I finished a project, I was rewarded with an art project.” Dr. Galope grew up with his Aunt as his guardian, went through medical school in California and moved to New Jersey for his medical internship at Union Hospital. He completed his residency at Saint Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, NY.

But the best part, says Dr. Galope, is due to the weight loss, this man no longer has high blood pressure or diabetes.
